Fine Vietnamese Tea
Vietnamese teas are in high demand among tea resellers from China and other Southeastern Asian countries. Their centuries-old plantations and ritual tea house retreats are enjoying a modern-day renaissance in the "new" Vietnam for business and pleasure. It is very difficult to buy Vietnamese tea direct, as most of it is under contract to China and resold as "high quality Chinese" tea. Thus few people realize that Vietnam is one of the top tea producers in the world, if not in quantity, then in quality.
Vietnamese teas are generally minimally processed whole leaf green or white teas, most of which are scented with Jasmine or Lotus. Jasmine tea is somewhat of a national drink, and Lotus tea is a specialty generally found only in Vietnam and China.
Our whole leaf teas and display teas are very potent and are intended for multiple brewings. You will use less tea than normal, and brewing should be at temperatures between 160° and 180°. Boiling water will destroy the delicacy of whole leaf green or white tea.
In addition to the green teas, we also offer some popular favorites that remain hard-to-find in America. The naturally sweet and soothing Artichoke Tea and delightful Rose Fruity Milk Tea have a very loyal following. For fans of rose teas, we have the Ruby Rosebud Tea, which consists of 100% tightly-furled miniature rosebuds in a deep magenta color.
Dragonflower Tea: Jasmine Phoenix
The Jasmine Phoenix Dragonflower contains a sunny orange Lily blossom with a cluster of real white Jasmine flowers extending upwards. The Silver Needle tea is delicate with a full flavor but no bitterness, and a gentle Jasmine scent from the flower. Each Jasmine Phoenix Dragonflower can brew 3 pots of tea, or about 16-20 cups of tea.
Dragonflower Tea: Water Lily
This type of Dragonflower contains a vividly-colored Amaranth flower, and extends to form a shape like a beautiful water lily. The Amaranth flower is purely decorative, but the fine Silver Needle tea is lightly Jasmine scented, smooth, and without bitterness. Each Water Lily can make 3 pots of tea, about 20-26 cups total, depending on the size of your cup and your preferred strength.
Dragonflower Tea: Rising Sun
This new arrival in the Dragonflower family has a series of brilliant yellow chrysanthemums rising from a cushion of fine white tea, reminiscent of the golden dawn sun. Chrysanthemum has a light flavor similar to chamomile and is a traditional enhancer for teas.
Ruby Rosebud Tea
This rare tea is pure miniature rosebuds. The deep color and perfect, shapely buds set this tea apart from other rose teas. Its beauty makes it an excellent gift, and it looks lovely in its glass jar. Perfect for the lovely lady in your life - lasts longer than a rose bouquet and you can drink it, too!
Rose Fruity Milk Tea
This novelty from Taiwan is made from mellow black tea, rose petals and rosehips ("rose fruit"). Each extra-large teabag also contains just the right amount of sugar and non-dairy creamer to create a delicate and unusual pleasure drink. The taste and aroma is exactly what you'd expect from the name: fruity, rosy, sweet and creamy. The black tea leaves are mild, yet not overwhelmed by the other flavors. After a cup of rose milk tea, even the dreariest day looks beautiful. It's delicious iced, too.
Allergy note: This tea contains no lactose but the creamer does contain milk protein (casein). No ingredients are from China.
Artichoke Tea
Delicious, caffeine-free Artichoke tea is made from the whole Artichoke plant, whose natural sweetness is enhanced with Sweetgrass. This traditional herbal tea is a Vietnamese favorite, and has a smooth and naturally sweet flavor, rich mouthfeel, and surprising aroma reminiscent of vanilla or milk chocolate. It requires no sweetener, and it is used as a healthful drink in southeast Asia, where it is believed to promote liver functioning, via a mild detox and slight diuretic effect. Please note brand pictured is out of stock, we are temporarily substituting another favorite brand with 25 teabags per box.
